In good communities, neat things happen by accident. Before a few days ago, I had never had a direct interaction with John. I had heard his name here and there, but I had never spoken with him or exchanged an email with him. Then, out of the blue, he sends me an email letting me know that he rebuilt and vastly improved the aforementioned plugin.
It was a small gesture, but it was a reminder of something bigger.
I’m not saying that we are best friends, and I don’t know if we will ever have another interaction. Yet the moment was special. Special because it was a small reminder that I am not alone. That there are a bunch of us working in our own little worlds, but they are not really our own little worlds. We are sharing a space, and sometimes beautiful accidents happen when our orbits collide.
